Robotpark Simple Nickel Plating Kit info

About the Product

Robotpark Simple Nickel Plating Kit is a set collected by Robotpark for nickel electroplating metals. The kit includes all the chemicals needed to prepare the plating bath by mixing with 300ml water (pure water will yield better results). To prepare the bath, all you have to do is to mix the chemicals in the kit with 300ml water.

Besides the chemicals for preparing the bath, the kit also includes pure nickel anode and a special pH indicator strips to measure pH value of the bath. The kit also includes a metal polisher to polish your metal after plating.

What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is done by connecting the metal to be plated to “-“  pole and connecting nickel anode to “+” pole inside the bath. Since the cathode and anode are connected to opposite poles, nickel ions separated from the nickel anode stick on the surface of the metal to be plated. For nickel plating via electrolysis, the nickel anode has to be pure. The most efficient results are achieved when the bath pH is between 3.8 and 4.5. Bath temperature is also important for nickel plating. The temperature of the bath is supposed to be 50⁰C-60⁰C.

Steps for Nickel Electroplating

  • The ideal container for nickel electroplating is glass or porcelain.
  • The chemicals in the kit are mixed with 300ml water in the container.
  • The substances are stirred with a glass rod.
  • Before plating, the metal to be plated and the nickel anode has to be cleared thoroughly.
  • The bath is heated to the suitable temperature and the pH is checked.
  • The metal to be plated is connected to “-“ pole and nickel anode is connected to “+” pole and they are dipped into the bath.
  • There should be at least 5cm between anode and cathode.
  • 2.5V-3V is applied to anode and cathode.
  • Moving the metal to be plated slowly in the bath while plating gives better results.
  • After the plating is done, plated metal surface is cleared.
  • Plated metal is polished with the metal polisher.
